Animal feed is the normal diet for various animals including poultry, livestock,aquatics. Different animals have different nutritional needs and different lifestyle, they live in different environment and have different digestive system. So people will choose different formulations to produce targeted feed for feeding, such as mash feed for layer chicken, pellet feed for broiler chicken, grass pellet for cattle and floating fish feed for fish and shrimp and so on.



Definition of animal feed mill/animal feed mill equipments

Shortened form of the product equipments, is a complete customized animal feed making project with different processing sections, each section consists of not only main machines but also connect machinery and auxiliary systems.


Equipments selection and process design depends on the requirements provided by customers, and may be influenced by many other factors. So a design which can meet customer’s needs is a reasonable solution, then the customer can get a stable, reliable and profitable animal feed factory.



Brief introduction of complete plant processing

In general, a complete  plant shall be customized per customer’s requirements, it may consist of different systems which connected by various conveying devices. Many factors such as project location, raw material formula, price and supplying channel, invest budget, land size, workshop limit in local, government policy, final feed price in local market, etc may influence the design of the plant.

For the poultry and livestock feed making, it may include raw material receiving section, raw material crushing section, batching and mixing section, pelleting & cooling section, packing section, and other auxiliary systems.

Take one 10 tph poultry feed processing plant flow chart as example.



Raw material receiving section/Silo system:

Sometimes, the material such as the corn or wheat price is not stable in local market or needs import from overseas, so people use silo system for the main material storage and supplying to the feed mill plant to ensure continuous production.

In this section, it includes dust collector, pre-cleaners, bucket elevators, silos and other related steel frame and so on.



Batching section:

Considering there is a silo section in the beginning of the processing, usually, people prefers to use post grinding processing design instead of pre-grinding design, as thus, cleaned materials in the silo section will be conveyed to the hopper group through bucket elevator, chain conveyor and distributor till batching scale for dosing according to the ingredient proportion. Materials after dosing will flow to the next section for grinding.



Crushing section:

After dosing, the raw material will flow to the next system—grinding section. Normally, material will feed into the surge bin upper the hammer mill, before that the magnet separator will remove the metal waste in the material firstly to ensure there is no any damage to the hammer mill machine. Due to the high power of hammer mill machine, engineer often suggest building a separate room to reduce the noise and the dust pollution. Dust collector system mainly used to remove the dust during grinding.

Besides, rotary feeder with frequency control can feed the material to hammer mill evenly, and one chamber will be equipped under the hammer mill, raw material will go through the screen mesh under the action of centrifugal force and airflow.



Mixing section:

To ensure the uniformity of feed nutrients, crushed material and mash materials shall be mixed in the mixing machine according to the ingredient proportion. Besides, oil or molasses may add into the mixer through oil adding machine per the formula requirements. In this section, mixing uniformity and material residents are the main technology parameters to balance the manufacturing quality.



Pelleting & Cooling section:

After mixing ,all materials will flow into the pellet mill for animal feed pellet pressing. Ring die pellet mill is the popular type for industrial feed production, and it usually shall equip to feeder and air condition (one or two layers) for high temperature steam supplying. Some germs will be killed during the material aging in the conditioner, also easy to press into pellet. high temperature steam comes from boiler, and the fuel to boiler maybe different per customer’s location.

After pelleting, the feed temperature can be 80-90 degree and shall be cool down to 30 degree for the storage an packing directly, so cooling machine is necessary before packing.
